Charlie Javice (age:30; born in 1992) was a businesswoman and CEO of Frank, a college financial planning platform, and is facing criminal charges for allegedly committing wire, bank, and securities fraud.

On Tuesday, the U.S. attorney’s office for the Southern District of New York charged her with wire, bank, and securities fraud. It said that she “falsely and dramatically” exaggerated the number of customers that Frank, her now-shuttered college financial planning company, had in a scheme to “fraudulently induce J.P. Morgan Chase to acquire” her start-up for $175 million.

JPMorgan had previously accused Javice of similar misconduct after acquiring Frank, which claimed to help millions of students and families more easily file for financial aid.

She has been facing four counts. They are one count of conspiracy to commit bank and wire fraud, one count of wire fraud affecting a financial institution, one count of bank fraud, and one of securities fraud. Three charges each carry a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison.

Charlie Javice was born in 1992 and raised in the wealthy area of Westchester County, New York. Her upbringing was privileged, but her parents instilled in her and her brother Elie the importance of giving back to their community.

She has also served as a special advisor to Wharton Social Impact Programs, where she developed a fellowship program to foster social innovation at Penn.
