Who is Heartstopper Actor Joe Locke?

Joe Locke (born on September 28, 2003) is an 18 years old newcomer in the acting industry who rose to fame after his landing as Charlie Spring in “Heartstopper,” a TV series that went online on Netflix on April 22, 2022. This is the first time ever Joe appeared in a show/film.

The story of this first came out as a comic book which turned into a novel, and now we have a Euros Lyn directed series. The story begins when the main character of this series Charlie Spring, gets to sit with a new classmate named Nicholas Nelson (Kit Connor). Charlie falls in love with Nick, but his friends tell him that Nelson is straight, making him keep his feelings to himself.

Joseph William Locke (age 18 years) took birth in Douglas, capital of Isle of Man, on September 28, 2003. Instead of using his father’s surname, we observed that Joe used his mother, Helen Locke’s last name. After searching thoroughly, we could not find his biological father, but we learned that his mom is currently married to Stephen Campbell.

Locke also has a stepbrother whose name is Dylan Goldie. Joseph has been passionate about acting since he was three years old, and upon growing up, he joined Youth Arts Theatre group. In 2022 he completed his high school graduation from Ballakermeen High School and is currently living in London, UK.

Acting Career

William Locke’s journey to becoming an actor started when he joined the school theatre. Joe found the art so impressive that he decided to pursue a career in the acting industry. A few images surface on his social media accounts that explain his participation in different plays.

When he got 16, his mother suggested Locke connect with a talent manager, so he contacted London’s Markham, Froggatt, and Irwin, after which Richard Gibb became his representative.

In early 2019 when Alice Oseman decided to make the series, the search for someone to play the lead characters began. Finally, the acting director of “Heartstopper,” Daniel Edwards, learned about Kit Connor and Joe Locke, who perfectly fit into the role.

When Joe received the offer to act in the Netflix series, he was set to work in Shrek but later dropped that offer and came to work for Euros Lyn.

After the show’s release on April 22, the Manx actor got contacted for photoshoots by several magazines like Attitude, Gay Times, JÓN Magazine, and others.

Personal Life

In an interview with Isle of Man Today, David Dawson explained nJoe as a kind-hearted and lovely person, which is not wrong. He is a kind person and always thinks about others first. When he was a 16 years old school student, he raised his voice and filed a petition to let Syrian refugees in the Isle of Man.

Locke is a gay man, and he accepted this when he shared a photograph where we can see his face on the cover of Gay Times magazine with the caption “Gay times cover… life goal made.”

He also accepted during an interview that during school time, he never faced a sort of bullying, but there were a few instances where some people talked things about him behind his back.
