Prosecutors have since alleged that Richins was not a grieving widow but a calculated murderer. According to detectives, she had communicated with a person and even procured fentanyl to try and give it to Eric.
Eric had fallen seriously ill after taking the fentanyl and even confided in a friend that he believed that Kouri was trying to poison him. Detectives have also uncovered evidence that she had requested prescription pain medication from the same person she had procured the fentanyl from, allegedly for an investor who had a back injury. It is suspected that the lady gave that fentanyl to her husband, mixing it with vodka.
