Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated the very important Atal Tunnel on Saturday in Rohtang, Himachal Pradesh. Narendra Modi arrives in Manali at around 9 am on Saturday. He has released the tunnel before 11 pm.
On Friday, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh also reviewed the safety and design of the tunnel before its inauguration. The Atal Tunnel is one of the NDA’s most ambitious schemes.
The decision to construct this tunnel under the Rohtang Pass was taken by the government of Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The foundation stone for the tunnel was laid on 26 May 2002. In December last year, in honor of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the Modi government decided to name the tunnel as the Atal Tunnel.
Now let’s tell you why the Atal Tunnel is so special. The Atal Tunnel is the longest tunnel on the National Highway in the world. It is more than 9 kilometers long and 8 meters high.
The tunnel was designed at a height of 3,000 meters from the C-level with state-of-the-art technologies. The tunnel is designed for use in all weather environments. The construction of the Atal tunnel would cut the journey from Manali to Leh by 46 kilometers.
The need for this tunnel for military operations was thus felt for a long time to come. After the completion of the tunnel, Lahaul Spiti will also be able to stay linked to Manali by road during the year. Owing to heavy snowfall, the town is isolated from the main roads every year.
Also, a special ventilator system inside the tube, a telephone service every 500 meters, an emergency escape fire system, and a tunnel were installed every 500 meters.
The tunnel has about 18 exit points to the underground tunnel. If the traffic begins inside the tunnel, please say your thoughts in the comment section on how much support will be provided to the Indian security forces and rescue operations.
