All About Illinois Mass shooting Suspect Romeo Nance
Romeo Nance (age 23, 2000 – January 22, 2024) was a man suspected of a two-day shooting spree that tragically took the lives of eight people in Chicago suburbs, ended his own life when confronted by law enforcement in Texas.
On January 22, 2024, around 8:30 p.m. central time, Nance fatally shot himself after a confrontation with US Marshals near Natalia, Texas.
The details of his journey from Illinois to Texas are still unclear, keeping local police and the FBI’s fugitive task force on high alert during the manhunt. Nance is accused of committing the heinous act across three different locations on January 21 and 22, leading to the discovery of multiple victims.
In the frantic hours that followed, the police launched an extensive manhunt. Authorities state that the victims and the suspect were acquainted, though the motive behind the shootings has not been revealed.
Eight Killed By Romeo Nance
At 12:04 p.m. on January 22, 2024, Joliet Police Chief Bill Evans shared some shocking news – they found several people dead in two houses on West Acres Road. This happened near Madison Street. The police got there and saw a terrible scene where seven people had been shot and killed.
These houses are not far from the busy intersection of Jefferson Street and Larkin Avenue, close to Ascension St. Joseph Hospital and Joliet West High School. After this tragic event on Monday, the police in Joliet quickly started looking for the person responsible, a man named Nance.
Chief Evans said Nance was connected to a red Toyota Camry, and his last known address was on the same block of Acres Road. It was revealed that Nance knew the victims, and they were all thought to be related. The Will County Sheriff’s deputies found the bodies while looking into an earlier shooting that happened the day before, just outside Joliet.
The link between the incidents was the red Toyota Camry connected to Nance. The series of violent events began on Sunday at Pheasant Run Apartments when the Will County Sheriff’s office got a call about a man bleeding from a gunshot wound.
The man, who was 28 years old and originally from Nigeria, had been living in the U.S. for about three years. Sadly, he didn’t make it. Even though it seemed like the two victims weren’t connected, the sheriff’s office noticed that the same car with the same license plate linked to Nance was seen at both scenes.
Will County Sheriff’s Deputy Chief Dan Jungles shared that detectives were investigating the deadly Sunday shooting the next day. They set up surveillance on Acres Road, where the car’s owner lived.
Deputies, connecting the houses across the street, found blood inside. This led to the grim discovery of five people dead at 2225 W. Acres Rd. and two more at 2212 W. Acres Rd.

At approximately 8:30 p.m. on Monday, Joliet police received information that U.S. Marshals had spotted Nance in Natalia, Texas – a staggering 1,200 miles away from Joliet, requiring an 18-hour drive.
The unsettling revelation placed Nance at a Valero gas station in Natalia, found inside a car. Tragically, it is presumed that Nance succumbed to a self-inflicted gunshot wound following a confrontation with Texas law enforcement. His prior arrest history unveiled a previous charge for aggravated discharge of a weapon involving a woman.
