All About Panama Lawyer Kenneth Darlington
Kenneth Darlington (age 77 , born 1946) is a former lawyer and professor who possesses dual citizenship in the United States and Panama. With a distinguished legal career, his expertise encompasses Civil Law, Commercial Law, and Corporate Law.
Darlington held a prominent position as a partner at Mossack Darlington & Asociados in Panama. However, it’s essential to note that he is a former lawyer, as he is no longer practicing law.
Darlington’s past is marked by a previous conviction for illegal possession of firearms, as reported by local media. Recently, Kenneth’s life took a shocking and tragic turn when on Tuesday, he was filmed as he confronted environmental demonstrators who were obstructing a highway in Panama.
Tragically, the confrontation took a violent turn, resulting in the fatal shooting of two protesters. As a result Kenneth has been taken into custody and is now facing serious charges.
On Wednesday, November 8, at 4:00 pm, Kenneth Darlington stood before a judge of guarantees in Western Panama. Following an intense two-hour hearing, the judge ordered his provisional arrest.
Eliécer Plicett, the plaintiff’s lawyer, explained that Darlington is now facing charges of aggravated homicide in connection with the tragic deaths of both protesters, along with the charge of illegal possession of firearms.
The guarantee hearing unfolded in La Espiga, located in the La Chorrera district of Panama. Paula Garcés, the prosecutor of the Panama Oeste Homicide and Femicide Section of the Public Ministry, affirmed that investigations into this deeply distressing incident are already underway.
Kenneth Darlington Case file
On Tuesday, November 7, Kenneth Darlington was running errands in the La Chorrera district when he unexpectedly encountered a series of roadblocks. As Darlington approached a roadblock on the Inter-American highway near Punta Chame, he made a peculiar statement to his companions in the car, saying, “This ends today,” increasing the tension in the situation.
Darlington exited his car and sought to engage with the protest leaders but insisted on speaking only to men, excluding women. Though there were few men present, three individuals attempted to interact with him in an effort to defuse the situation.
However, events took a tragic turn. Kenneth engaged in a heated argument with the protesters, which eventually led to him firing his gun multiple times. He chillingly uttered, “This is the end of the problem” as he did so, leaving victims in his wake.
Subsequently, Darlington removed evidence from the scene and returned to his car, leaving his companions in shock. When they inquired about the events, he casually admitted, “Yes, I killed one and shot another.”
Interestingly, Darlington referred to one of his companions as his wife, ‘Yessica Uribe,’ suggesting a level of detachment from the gravity of the situation. Despite his suggestion to depart, Uribe firmly responded, “We’re not leaving.”
In response to the gunfire, Darlington’s partner took swift action, contacting the National Police and dialing 911 for assistance. The police responded promptly, apprehending Darlington as he attempted to reload his firearm.
Regrettably, despite medical efforts, one victim, Abdiel Díaz Chávez, lost his life at the scene. Another victim, Iván Rodríguez Mendoza, 62, was rushed to a clinic in San Carlos but arrived without any signs of life. Both victims were teachers, adding another layer of sadness to this tragic incident.
The case is ongoing, and there is even talk of a third injured person who remains hospitalized. The victims’ connection to the education field makes this situation even more startling.
During the hearing, Darlington’s defense declared an appeal. The next chapter of this story will unfold on Wednesday, November 15, at 8:30 am when the Superior Court of Appeals convenes to handle this appeal.
Darlington has a History of Crime
Kenneth Darlington, the man at the center of the recent shocking incident, isn’t exactly a stranger to run-ins with the law. Back in 2005, Darlington was in a bit of a pickle when the National Police conducted a raid on an apartment in Paitilla. During the raid, he openly admitted to owning not one, but two weapons of war. However, he argued that these firearms were part of his collection. An unusual choice for a collector, one might say.
As a result of this revelation, Darlington faced an investigation for alleged possession of weapons of war and ammunition. However, he managed to secure his release by posting bail. But Darlington had a connection with financier Marc Harris, who faced a conviction for money laundering on July 23, 2005. A link to a money laundering case adds an intriguing layer to his background.
