Governing Dynamics Founder Alex Mashinsky

Governing Dynamics Founder & Managing Partner Alex Mashinsky Wiki | Bio

Alex Mashinsky (born on October 5, 1965) is a successful entrepreneur and is a well-known name in the business of start-ups and unicorns; this level og success was not at all easy; Mashinsky has seen his fair share of struggles, but his hard work and determination helped him to become the person he is today.

His name is floating in the headlines, not because of a new business venture or partnership but due to his resignation from his post as CEO of the bankrupt crypto lender Celsius Network. On Tuesday, September 27, 2022, Alex Mashinsky submitted an official letter of resignation to the company’s Board of Directors, stating that he will continue to help the company to bring out the best outcome for all creditors; he also regretted how much of a “distraction” his presence was as the CEO.

He was responsible for a series of poor trades in early 2022, which led to the crypto lender’s downfall; Celsius was one of the major crypto lenders and also the first one to freeze user withdrawal as the markets began to crash, on June 12, 2022, after a month of silence, the firm filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, revealing a 1.2 billion dollar hole in their balance sheet.

Bankruptcy was due to hastily paying back money to various Defi loans to prevent them from getting liquidated on over $440 million; three days later, Alex Mashinsky released his resignation. The firm, however, paid back the entire loan and recovered the funds.

Since then, the company has gained permission to sell its mined Bitcoins, and they are sure running at a loss, but creditors are trying to regroup and cut their losses; there are also reports stating that Celsius has been secretly unable to pay debts ever since 2019, but Alex had made false and misleading statements to exaggerate the firm’s financial health.

Early Life

Born on October 5, 1965, Alex Mashinsky was raised in USSR, a communist country at that time; he first-hand experienced the struggles faced by his parents; even though both were working, there was a constant fear of lack of food, and there were times when they would stand in long lines for food, and by the time their turn came, there would be nothing left.

Things were like this for the first seven years of his life. Things got worse when his family decided to leave the country in the 1970s and move to Isreal, where the Arab-Israel War was in full swing; they were recruiting citizens above 18 to fight in the war.

When the time came, Alex was called to duty, where he saw and experienced unimaginable things, but he still went on and survived. While he Israel, he attended different universities; he enrolled in The Open University of Israel, where he majored in electrical engineering but sadly did not graduate.

He got a chance in the 1980s to leave Isreal; he went to New York with a few dollars in his pocket and never looked back. In higher education, Alex attended Tel Aviv University, graduated with a Bachelor of Science – BS, Economics, and went on to create an empire for himself.

Career

Mashinsky moved to New York and began working in all kinds of industries, often focusing on popular technologies; he has, however, had a tendency to leave companies after a period of conflict or tension; he first started a business trading contract for the delivery of chemicals such as urea, gold, and sodium cyanide, this came to an end after Tiananmen Square protests of 1989, as exports of sodium cyanide from China stopped.

Alex then worked for A+ Systems, a computer-based voicemail software company for phone carriers; later, he founded Comgates, a soft switch vendor that was sold to Telco Systems; he was a part of this business for 6 years, moving on to building another multi-vendor control panel software, Elematics, this venture lasted for three years.

An enormous business opportunity came his way in 1996 when Mashinsky founded Arbinet; it grew to become the telecom industry’s most prominent exchange service; it was the first to allow telecommunication companies to trade minutes and had over 20 billion transactions a year.

They later merged with Primus in 2011; Alex began investing in compies like Sphere, Dubset Media Holdings, Inc., and was a member of YPO; he then sold his stakes at Arbinet to start GroundLink; this app allowed people to book a limousine and car service from a smartphone or computer, he had this idea when he booked a car for himself and his wife that failed to pick them up, along with a business associate he was trying to impress, this company also partnered with Gogo Inflight Internet to offer the free service on US flights. Alex then moved on to create Transit Wireless.

This $1 billion business powers the wireless system in New York City’s 300 subway stations, bringing 4G and WiFi coverage to 8.5 million daily commuters; by 2010, his company was booked to install the service at 277 below-ground subway stations in New York City. He then joined as their CEO Celsius Network.

This crypto wallet paid interest on the top 20 blockchain coins and left after five years, currently working with Governing Dynamics as their managing partner.
